The H&S Representative & Committee Award acknowledges and recognises a positive contribution of an individual elected H&S Representative, or team of representatives, or a H&S Committee that demonstrate outstanding commitment to the position of H&S representative, or as a H&S Committee, thereby making a positive difference to WHS in their workplace.

The WHS legislation provides for the election of H&S Representatives and the formation of H&S Committees.

H&S Representatives have statutory rights, functions and powers to represent the workforce and liaise with the employer to actively improve WHS. The role of the elected H&S Representative is a voluntary position that is performed in addition to a worker’s usual occupation at the workplace.

H&S Committees comprise of H&S Representatives (if any have been elected), other worker representatives and management representatives, to consult and cooperate on H&S matters to improve workplace WHS.

H&S Representatives and H&S Committees are vitally important to achieving WHS in workplaces.

CRITERIA

The selection criteria for this award include the following:

  1. Actions and achievements of the H&S Representative/s or H&S Committee relevant to the nature of the organisation, its hazards and risks, and ways of managing WHS.
  2. Personal and or team attributes, behaviour and actions of the H&S Representative/s, or H&S Committee, directed toward improvement of WHS in the workplace.
  3. The benefit or improvement in WHS that the H&S Representative/s or H&S Committee has assisted or contributed to achieving in the workplace.

ELIGIBILITY

Entry to this award is open to all individuals, businesses and undertakings that operate in Western Australia, including the corporate, government, not-for-profit and community sectors.  

Individuals and business entities being nominated for this award must provide written permission for the nomination and for its use in WHS Foundation promotional materials.   

SUBMISSION

Submissions must include a clear written summary addressing the selection criteria below. (Up to 500 words in MS Word or PDF). However, to compliment the written submission, applicants are encouraged to also submit a short video (max 3 minutes) and additional supporting material including: documents, photographs, video / audio, web links or other relevant information with their submission     

JUDGING

A judging panel comprising 3 to 5 judges will qualitatively assess applications against the criteria above and select a short list of award finalists. One winner from the shortlisted finalists will be determined that, in the opinion of the judging panel, best demonstrates achievement of the award category and criteria.  

NOTIFICATION

Finalists will be notified in advance of the award ceremony. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony on Saturday 26 October 2024 at the gala event at the Astral Ballroom, Crown Perth.
