The BSB41419 Certificate IV Work Health and Safety course is designed to provide participants with knowledge of the basic role of a WHS Practitioner. This qualification reflects the competencies required in a workplace by those who are intending to become WHS Practitioners.

The BSB41419 Certificate IV Work Health and Safety is a competency-based workplace health and safety (WHS) qualification. This means that to attain the qualification, participants are required to do more than just attend the training course. Participants will be required to provide evidence that they have understood the WHS training and applied it in their workplace. As such, it is not possible to complete all of the assessment requirements during the face-to-face training.

The timeframe for completing the assessments for the course is 12 months.

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Communicate and explain the work health and safety management system (WHSMS) plan to others in relation to their roles and responsibilities, and facilitate their contribution to implementation of the plan
  • Assist with assessing how the workplace complies with the relevant WHS legislation
  • Contribute to the implementation of the WHS Management Plan as it applies to your own work area and job role
  • Obtain information and data to determine the nature and scope of workplace hazards, the range of harm they may cause and how these are caused
  • Apply knowledge of risk assessment to contribute to the selection of risk-assessment techniques, tools and processes for common hazards
  • Contribute to the identification and assessment of barriers to the implementation and effectiveness of WHS consultation and participation processes
  • Contribute to setting up and running WHS consultation and participation processes
  • Identify training requirements necessary for effective WHS consultation and participation processes
  • Assist investigators and provide relevant information during investigations
  • Assist with obtaining information from those involved regarding actions and events leading up to, or occurring during or after an incident
  • Identify and contact responsible persons and relevant authorities when required

How is this qualification delivered?

Each participant’s learning journey starts with the successful enrolment in this course.

This qualification is delivered via face to face training. Participants are required to provide a laptop and will be given a USB in order to complete the assessment.
